2 Kings 1:15
And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king. And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.
This chapter stands together with 1 Kings 21 as background for Jehu hastening in his chariot to Jezreel.
It belongs to the history of the fall of the house of Ahab, showing the evil influence Jezebel exercised over Ahab from the first and continued during the later years of his life, bearing fruit in deeds of shame and violence seldom equaled in sacred history.
The angel's word told Elijah to go down with the third, humbled captain to King Ahaziah and not be afraid of him.
Elijah arose, obeyed, and went down with him to the king.
His visit formed part of an earnest protest when Ahaziah turned from God to Baal-zebub.
The message he delivered was God's judgment that Ahaziah would die without recovering from his illness.
The reason was that he had sought an oracle and answer from Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, instead of inquiring of God and the God of Israel.
The history of Ahaziah's sin in consulting the god of Ekron and his punishment stands as a warning that none can disregard with impunity.
Turning from God to Satan's sources of information is worshiping at Satan's shrine as verily as the king of Israel did, and the very spirit of that heathen idolatry is rife today, though under the influence of science and education it has assumed a more refined and attractive form.
Faith in the sure word of prophecy is fast decreasing while superstition and Satanic witchery captivate minds.
All who do not earnestly search the Scriptures and submit every desire and purpose of life to that unerring test, and who do not seek God in prayer for a knowledge of His will, will surely wander from the right path and fall under the deception of Satan.
