2 Kings 1:17

So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.

This verse records the end of Ahaziah's turning from the living God to Baal-zebub, a heathen god, for guidance instead of seeking God. His death followed his refusal to repent and turn from Baal despite having witnessed God's works and warnings. He died according to the word of the Lord spoken through Elijah, just as declared. That fulfillment confirms the certainty of God's word and His judgment on rebellion, carrying a lesson of warning that none can disregard with impunity.

Because Ahaziah had no son, his brother Jehoram succeeded him as king of Israel over the ten tribes. The succession took place in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. Jehoram ruled twelve years.

To consult Satan's shrine instead of God is idolatry. The same spirit of heathen idolatry remains widespread today, though under the influence of science and education it has assumed a more refined and attractive form. Thousands worship at Satan's shrine as truly as did the king of Israel. Faith in the sure word of prophecy is fast decreasing while superstition and satanic witchery captivate minds. All who do not earnestly search the Scriptures and submit every desire and purpose of life to that unerring test, and who do not seek God in prayer for knowledge of His will, will surely wander from the right path and fall under the deception of Satan.
