2 Kings 10:29
Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Beth-el, and that were in Dan. Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Beth-el, and that were in Dan.
Jehu destroyed certain forms of idol worship yet held fast to the earlier apostasy introduced by Jeroboam son of Nebat, preserving the veneration of the golden calves set up at Bethel and at Dan. His partial reformation left the state-sponsored calf worship untouched even while other idolatry was opposed. His course proves that energetic zeal in religious work may exist side by side with self-exaltation. When self is allowed to rule, it drives a person to utter harsh and unfitting words instead of speaking with gentleness and love.
