2 Kings 10:3
Look even out the best and meetest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house. Look even out the best and meetest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.
The setting is Jehu's anointing as king with the charge to destroy the house of Ahab and his carrying out of that commission. That work of judgment was directed against those who persisted in sin and led others into sin. In this verse Jehu tests the allegiance of the leaders by bidding them to select the best and fittest of their master's sons, place him on his father's throne, and fight for their master's house.
His course stands as an example of how the rising up of self produces speech that is harsh and unfitting. Zeal to win souls must therefore be governed by gentleness and sympathy rather than such harshness.
