Israel was stripped of the whole of its possessions on the eastern side of the Jordan. That loss embraced all the land of Gilead and Bashan occupied by the Gadites, the Reubenites, and the Manassites, stretching from Aroer by the river Arnon through Gilead and Bashan. The territory was taken amid the unbroken warfare waged against Israel by the Syrians. Those conflicts belonged to the reign of Jehoahaz, under whom the pressure from Syria continued without relief.
