2 Kings 10:7
And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel. And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.
The arrival of the letter brought the seizure of the king's sons, seventy persons of the house of Ahab, who were slain and whose heads were placed in baskets and sent to Jezreel to Jehu. Their execution was part of the overthrow and destruction of the house of Ahab, carrying out the divine commission to avenge the blood of the Lord's servants and prophets. Their deaths were a judgment upon those who continued in sin and who led others into sin. The deed exemplifies the forceful, violent conduct associated with Jehu. It thus illustrates how self can rise up and produce harsh words and actions that are unbefitting.
