2 Kings 11:10

And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David’s spears and shields, that were in the temple of the LORD.

2 Kings 11:10 belongs to the nearly 300-year history of the kings of Israel and Judah recorded in 2 Kings 7-23, which in Judah includes the successive reigns of Ahaziah, Athaliah, and Joash. After Ahaziah died, Athaliah, Ahab's wicked daughter who had carried Jezebel's spirit into Judah, seized the throne and sought to kill all her son's children and the royal heirs to clear them out of her way. The infant Joash and his nurse were hidden in the temple by his aunt, the wife of Jehoiada the high priest, and Joash remained hidden there until he was seven years old.

When Joash was seven, Athaliah's corrupt reign provoked revolt, and under the leadership of the good priest Jehoiada, Joash was brought out from hiding, proclaimed king, and placed on the throne while Athaliah was slain. While Jehoiada lived the young king remained under his influence, the house of the Lord was repaired, and the worship of the true God was established again. At that crowning, Jehoiada the priest gave the captains over hundreds King David's spears and shields that were kept in the temple of the Lord, equipping the guard to protect the newly revealed king Joash. Those weapons were additional or different arms issued for guarding Joash, since soldiers were not usually fully armed when no trouble was expected.
