2 Kings 11:20
And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house. And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.
After Athaliah was put to death by the sword, the priests of Baal were removed and the temple of Baal was torn down, and then the whole land rejoiced while Jerusalem rested in peace. That gladness of the people and quiet of the city came as the direct aftermath of judgment upon the usurping queen and the cleansing away of idolatrous worship. Their rejoicing and the city's calm marked the close of Athaliah's corrupting and destructive influence over the nation. At the same time those signs marked the opening of a reformation that turned the land back toward God. In that reformation the people renewed their covenant pledge to be the Lord's own.
