2 Kings 11:4
And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and shewed them the king’s son.
This verse belongs to the account of the beginning of Joash's reign in Judah under the good priest Jehoiada, of his rise to the throne under the guidance of that godly priest. After the death of his father Ahaziah, his grandmother Athaliah usurped the throne of Judah and sought to put to death all her son's children, but Joash was hidden in the house of the Lord by his aunt, the wife of Jehoiada the high priest.
The seventh year is the seventh year of Athaliah's rule, when Joash was seven years old after having been hidden in the temple. It came when Athaliah's corrupt reign caused the people to revolt. In that year Jehoiada brought the rulers over hundreds, the military commanders and captains with the guard, to himself into the house of the Lord, made a covenant with them and bound them by oath there. There he showed them the king's son, the surviving rightful heir whom Athaliah had believed killed.
This began the coordinated plan to proclaim the hidden seven-year-old Joash as Judah's rightful king in Athaliah's place. With the officials' help he was brought out from his hiding-place in the temple to the throne, her usurpation was ended, and she was slain. While Jehoiada lived, the young king remained under his influence, the house of the Lord was repaired, and the worship of the true God was established once more.
