2 Kings 13:11

And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.

2 Kings 13:11 stands within the record of Israel's kings in a time characterized by sin, conflict, defeat, and subjection to foreign powers. It describes King Jehoash as doing evil in the sight of the Lord by continuing in the established pattern of departure from God. He did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, but walked in them.

The surrounding chapter places this failure alongside Elisha's final effort to teach Jehoash persistence and faithfulness. That lesson Jehoash failed to learn. The continued idolatry weakened the kingdom. Had the people followed the Lord's commandments, Israel could have been strong and stable.
