2 Kings 13:23
And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet. And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
The Lord spared Israel from destruction and did not yet cast them away from His presence because He remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. That sparing was not forgetfulness of their course but deliberate restraint rooted in covenant faithfulness. His graciousness toward them and His compassion upon them were the expression of His long-suffering love. Even when they had sinned, that love held Him back from cutting them off.
