After Jehoash king of Israel captured Jerusalem, he stripped it of its wealth, taking all the gold and silver, the vessels found in the house of the Lord, and the treasures stored in the king's house. Along with this spoil he seized hostages and then returned to Samaria. This plundering accompanied the demolition of a large part of the city walls.
