2 Kings 15:17

In the nine and thirtieth year of Azariah king of Judah began Menahem the son of Gadi to reign over Israel, and reigned ten years in Samaria.

Menahem son of Gadi followed Shallum as king over Israel, whose brief reign brought Jehu's dynasty to an end, and began to reign in the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, reigning ten years in Samaria. His reign falls within the nearly three-hundred-year span covered in 2 Kings 7-23, contemporary with Azariah or Uzziah in Judah and with the ministries of Hosea, Jonah, and Amos. It was one of the short and troubled reigns that close the kingdom of Israel, followed by Pekahiah, Pekah, and Hoshea, marking the decline of the ten-tribe kingdom and its departure from God as idolatry led it astray.

In his reign Israel became tributary to Tiglath-Pileser III of Assyria. After these final reigns Shalmaneser of Assyria invaded and Sargon completed the conquest, and the tribes were carried away into captivity and scattered.
