2 Kings 15:37

In those days the LORD began to send against Judah Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah.

The verse stands in the history recorded in 2 Kings 7 to 23, covering nearly 300 years. It falls among the short and troubled reigns of Menahem, Pekahiah, Pekah, and Hoshea in Israel, ending with the invasion of Shalmaneser of Assyria completed by Sargon and the captivity and scattering of the tribes. It belongs to a period of Israel's kings that included Pekah, amid a continuing history of transgression, war, strife, defeat, and captivity.

Its time was contemporary with the reigns of Ahaziah, Athaliah, Joash, Amaziah, Azariah or Uzziah, Jotham, and Ahaz in Judah. It was likewise contemporary with the reigns of Hezekiah, Manasseh, Amon, Josiah, and Jehoahaz in Judah. It was in the time of the prophets Hosea, Jonah, and Amos in Israel and Joel, Isaiah, Micah, Jeremiah, Zephaniah, and Nahum in Judah.

It shows Judah's spotted record in which the kingdom prospered under righteous and faithful rulers. When rulers turned from God to gross idolatry they brought calamity upon themselves and their people.
