2 Kings 15:8

In the thirty and eighth year of Azariah king of Judah did Zachariah the son of Jeroboam reign over Israel in Samaria six months.

Zachariah the son of Jeroboam II reigned over Israel in Samaria six months, in the thirty-eighth year of Azariah, also called Uzziah, king of Judah. He followed Jeroboam II in Israel's succession of rulers, standing in the line of Joram, Jehu, Jehoahaz, Jehoash, Jeroboam II, and then Zachariah, within the nearly 300-year period of the kings of Judah.

He was the fourth in descent from Jehu, and his brief reign lasted just long enough to fulfill God's promise to Jehu. His reign, with Shallum's, ended Jehu's dynasty. His brief reign came amid the continuing turmoil of the northern kingdom, within the story of Israel's departure from God through idolatry.

After him came the short and troubled reigns of Menahem, Pekahiah, Pekah, and Hoshea, when Israel came to an end by the invasion of Shalmaneser of Assyria, completed by Sargon his successor, with the tribes carried into captivity and scattered.
