2 Kings 16:9
And the king of Assyria hearkened unto him: for the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and took it, and carried the people of it captive to Kir, and slew Rezin. And the king of Assyria hearkened unto him: for the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and took it, and carried the people of it captive to Kir, and slew Rezin.
Ahaz appealed for help, and the king of Assyria listened to him. In answer, Assyria marched against Damascus and seized the city. Its people were carried away captive to Kir, and Rezin was put to death. The chapter where this stands forms part of the Jews' own history, and it was set before them in parable to display their future as the outcome of their chosen course. That display showed they had for thousands of years been forging fetters for themselves, binding themselves in a bondage that no human power could break.
