2 Kings 17:20

And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

The Lord rejected all the seed of Israel, afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers and plunderers until He cast them out of His sight and removed them from His presence. The rejection came because Israel rejected God's ways for human ways, refused to listen to and obey His voice, and rejected His law, His covenant, His statutes, His testimonies, and all His commandments, including all that was commanded through Moses. Their wickedness included idolatry and serving Baal, making two molten calves, making a grove, and worshiping all the host of heaven.

Their sin was persistent and they steadfastly refused to repent despite plain warnings and repeated calls sent through all His prophets. The judgment was fulfilled when Israel was carried away out of its own land to Assyria, as the prophets had foretold, with the Assyrians capturing Samaria and scattering the remnant of the ten tribes among other nations. Israel's downfall progressed until the people became prey to the very nations whose practices they had adopted.

Their defeat by enemies who plundered their land and took them captive showed how weak they were without God. The affliction and scattering of Israel led surrounding peoples to question the power of Israel's God.
