2 Kings 18:8

He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

The verse belongs to the history of Judah's remaining kingdom after the ten tribes of the northern kingdom of Samaria had been broken up and swept away in the seventeenth chapter. It stands in the closing record of Kings that hastens from that breakup toward the Babylonian captivity of Judah. It belongs to the account and reign of Hezekiah. Hezekiah was one of two good kings to whom five chapters are given, a devoted man of God notwithstanding his mistakes.

The historical account to which it belongs confirms the Assyrian invasion of Palestine and the siege of Jerusalem. The account of Hezekiah is an example of God being a friend to his people in trouble.
