2 Kings 19:12

Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed; as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar?

The verse preserves Sennacherib's taunt that the gods of the nations destroyed by his fathers had been unable to rescue them from Assyrian conquest. That failure is presented as proof that the gods worshiped by those peoples did not deliver them when Assyria came against them. The conquered peoples held up as examples are Gozan and Haran and Rezeph, together with the children of Eden who were in Thelasar. Their defeat is then turned into a direct challenge to Jerusalem, asking whether Jerusalem's God, the God of Judah, can deliver the city from the power of Assyria.
