Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel. Sennacherib's insults, proud threats, and boasts of power against Jerusalem were directed against the Holy One of Israel. His arrogant words against God's people and God's power were reproach and blasphemy against God Himself. That arrogance toward God was expressed through his messengers and through his boast that his armies could conquer lands and overcome every obstacle. God answers this defiance by declaring that these events have remained under His knowledge and control.
