2 Kings 19:23
By thy messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.
Through his messengers Sennacherib, king of Assyria, reproached the Lord by boasting that with the multitude of his chariots and armies he had come up to the height of the mountains. He claimed he had ascended to Lebanon, to its sides, and would cut down its tall cedars and its choice fir trees. He further boasted that he would enter into the lodgings of its borders and into the forest of its Carmel, penetrating its most remote and distant forests. This boast was not merely against Judah but was directed against God Himself, against the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, challenging His authority with claims of military power. In answer God declared that the Assyrian king's actions and his rage were known to Him, and that He would turn him back.
