2 Kings 19:33

By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.

The word was given to Hezekiah concerning the king of Assyria when the land of Judah had been laid waste by the Assyrian army of occupation. Sennacherib would not come into Jerusalem, but would return by the same way he came. He would not shoot an arrow at the city, nor besiege it, nor build a bank against it. God Himself would defend the city to save it, for His own sake and for His servant David's sake.

With this warning came a promise that God would miraculously provide food for the people until the third year. In that third year they would again be able to sow and reap and plant vineyards. With it also came a promise that the escaped remnant of the house of Judah in Jerusalem would again take root downward and bear fruit upward.
