2 Kings 20:19
Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days? Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?
The verse comes after God healed Hezekiah and added fifteen years to his life, when he showed the Babylonian ambassadors the treasures of God's house, his own storehouses, and the other advantages entrusted to him. That display misused what God had given him. He made the display hoping to gain influence with the visitors, expecting the showing of his treasures and advantages to win standing with them. But they went away planning to take those advantages for themselves, and the exposure opened his possessions to plunder.
God left him at that time to test him and reveal what was in his heart. His conduct in that test shows how prosperity and opportunity test what is in a person and test character. His allying with unbelievers instead of trusting fully in God shows how those entrusted with sacred responsibilities bring weakness and harm upon others. The episode warns against exposing an institution's books, affairs and resources to outsiders, for that exposure was a mistake. The resulting harm can be far greater than any promised financial benefit.
The same kind of test came again when Dr. Kellogg showed strangers the Sanitarium's riches. His pride and self-exaltation in that showing revealed failure of the test.
