2 Kings 21:22

And he forsook the LORD God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of the LORD.

Amon abandoned the Lord God worshiped by his fathers and refused to walk in the Lord's way, persisting instead in the idolatrous practices introduced by his father Manasseh. His course was a continuation of his father's idolatry rather than a return to ancestral faithfulness. To walk in the way of the Lord is to walk in the light by deliberate resolve, thoughtful purpose, and exerted willpower in earnest endeavor to reflect Christ with sweetness of character. It requires putting away all gloom and refusing to rest satisfied with merely claiming to be a child of God. It involves beholding Jesus and being changed into His likeness by that beholding, advancing in spiritual attainment by forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead while constantly keeping the Pattern in view. It also means walking uprightly, by faith, in the Spirit, in truth, in love, and in newness of life, which perfects holiness in reverence for God.
