2 Kings 22:16

Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:

The message declares that evil will come upon Jerusalem and its inhabitants, bringing to pass every word of the book of the law that the king of Judah had read. The calamity falls because the people forsook God, turned to the worship of other gods in idolatry, and provoked Him by their deeds and actions. The punishment is certain and can no longer be averted, for God's word of warning will be fulfilled and His wrath kindled against the place will not be quenched. Even if the people humbled themselves at that time, the ruin still could not be turned aside. Their long persistence in wrongdoing had so deadened their moral sensibilities that without the judgment they would soon return to the same sinful course.
