2 Kings 23:16
And as Josiah turned himself, he spied the sepulchres that were there in the mount, and sent, and took the bones out of the sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.
At the rending of the kingdom Jeroboam the son of Nebat in defiance of God sought to turn Israel away from the services of the temple in Jerusalem to new forms of worship. He set up an unconsecrated altar at Bethel whose dedication would seduce many into idolatrous practices. A man of God from Judah appeared in Jeroboam's presence and cried against the altar. He declared with a sign that the word was of the Lord, that a child born to the house of David named Josiah would offer upon it the priests of the high places who burned incense upon it and would burn men's bones upon it.
During his reformation to cleanse the land Josiah came to Bethel where that ancient altar still stood. And turning, he took bones from the sepulchres in the mount and burned them upon the altar to pollute and defile it. He broke the altar down. What had been proclaimed years before in Jeroboam's presence was then literally fulfilled many years and three centuries later. Josiah then preserved that prophet's sepulchre undisturbed, together with the bones of the prophet who had come from Samaria.
