2 Kings 23:17
Then he said, What title is that that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God, which came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Beth-el. Then he said, What title is that that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God, which came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Beth-el.
Josiah was at Bethel in the course of his reformation after he had broken down the altar and high place erected by Jeroboam and had burned bones taken from the sepulchers upon the altar to pollute it. While there he saw a monument and asked what title or marker it was, and the men of the city told him in reply. The tomb was the sepulcher of the man of God who had come from Judah and had proclaimed these things that Josiah had done against the altar of Bethel. That proclamation was the word of the Lord spoken three centuries before, which Josiah had now fulfilled, so the tomb stood as the mark of the fulfillment of that prophecy many years after it had been spoken. Josiah therefore commanded that the man be let alone and that no one move his bones, ordering that his bones be left undisturbed. And his bones were left alone together with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.
