2 Kings 3:24

And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.

The smiting of the Moabites shows that Israel's victory came through God's power, not by Israel's own strength or by any human strength. The verse presents a test of faith in which God proves His people in sifting, searching, trying times. In such times faith and patience are severely tested by apparent impossibilities obstructing the way.

Those who put trust not in what men can do but in what God can do for and through them can rely on Him to turn the battle against the enemy. That turning is done not by human strength but by the strength of the mighty General of armies working for His own name's glory. God works in unexpected ways and in ways least expected, not with observation. The Lord has ways and means for every emergency, and His power of old, whose ways are past finding out, still acts today.

All who so trust Him will certainly realize His power in their work, and similar tests of faith will come to them. The lesson is therefore to go forward with the grace of Christ without questioning the length or the obstacles of the way, relying wholly upon God day by day and following His leadings to victory. His working must not be limited by finite plans or by marking out beforehand how He will work. Those who walk by sight with small faith will be disappointed.
