2 Kings 3:27

Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.

The king of Moab took his eldest son who should have reigned in his place and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall, and great indignation came against Israel so that they departed from him and returned to their own land.

The chapter to which this belongs presents tests of faith that stand as a pattern for those who trust God when facing tests and temptations, and the same kind of test will be met again. The battle against the enemy is not turned by human strength but by what God can do for and through those who put their trust in Him rather than in themselves.

Those who trust God must not assume they can map out how He will act, because He works in ways people do not expect, in ways least expected. He provides for every emergency, so those facing apparent obstacles must keep trusting Him. He acts by the strength of the mighty General of armies for the glory of His own name, and all who so trust Him will certainly realize His power in their work.
