Elisha Restores the Shunammite's Sonby emmanuel_higgins

2 Kings 4:32

And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.

2 Kings 4:32 belongs to an account that presents Elisha's ministry as bringing healing and rejoicing through miracles and personal service to the people. When Elisha came into the house, the Shunammite woman's son was dead and laid upon his bed. That bed was the place where she had laid him, which was Elisha's own bed.

The child's death sets the scene for Elisha's prayer and for God to restore the boy alive to his mother. That restoration rewarded the mother's faith. It foreshadows the resurrection, when Christ the Life-giver will raise the faithful dead at His coming and reunite the faithful with their loved ones, so that the faithful receive their loved ones again and death loses its sting and the grave its victory.
