God made the Syrian force laying siege to Samaria hear the noise of a mighty army, and that terror drove them to run and ended the city's famine. As they rushed in panic toward the Jordan they threw off clothing and equipment, strewing garments and vessels all along the road while still short of crossing the river. Israelites chased them all the way to the Jordan, saw the whole route littered with what had been dropped, and the messengers came back to report the discovery to the king.
