2 Kings 7:20

And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.

The verse concerns the royal officer, the king's captain, who doubted Elisha's prophecy that God would provide food in abundance and plenty. He lived to see the promised supply arrive, having been appointed to oversee its distribution at the gate. The hungry people trampled him in the city gate at Samaria and he died, in certain fulfillment of the word Elisha had spoken against him.

What was fulfilled was Elisha's foretelling that the officer would see the abundance with his eyes but would not eat of it or share in it, for he saw the plenty fulfilled yet died before he could partake of the food. His death was the stated consequence of rejecting God's word in unbelief. It warns that those who doubt Christ's coming in this generation will likewise witness its fulfillment without sharing in its blessings.
