2 Kings 9:19

Then he sent out a second on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.

The verse belongs to the history of Elijah and Elisha that follows the house of Ahab to its extinction. Within that history it belongs to Jehu's fierce and summary destruction of Ahab's house and rooting of Baal worship out of Israel. It records the second time the peace question was put to Jehu as he swept onward in his warrior's chariot as a zealous captain and furious driver. A second horseman sent by the king asked Jehu whether his coming meant peace, and instead of returning he turned behind Jehu and joined his company of war.

The peace question was asked twice by messengers and a third time by the wicked King Joram, showing the question is as old as war itself. Jehu might have redeemed Israel from false worship had he not been a worshiper of himself. His action against Baal did not lead him to abandon Jeroboam's image worship. It is the same peace question thousands ask today while the nations stand armed to the teeth with vast armies, drawn swords and loaded guns and groan under crushing war expenses.
