And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many? Jehu met Joram's question about whether there was peace with a refusal, declaring that no peace could exist while the many immoralities and sorceries of Joram's mother Jezebel and her continuing influence remained. The denial was not a mere rebuke but an exposure of the root cause, that Jezebel's prevailing sins made true peace impossible. This confrontation took place as Jehu was executing the appointed judgment upon the house of Ahab for its persistent evil. Following this exchange, Joram was killed together with the other remaining members of Ahab's house.
