Jehoram, king of Israel, had been wounded in battle and had withdrawn to Jezreel to recover, and it was there that Jehu struck him down. Jehu had been anointed king and charged to avenge the blood of the servants of the Lord and to bring the house of Ahab to an end. The bow drawn with full strength, sending an arrow between Jehoram's arms and out at his heart so that he sank down in his chariot, was the carrying out of that divinely appointed destruction of Ahab's house.
