Jezebel Lies Dead While Dogs Lick Her Bloodby KandD

2 Kings 9:34

And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king’s daughter.

The verse stands in the account of Jehu's execution of judgment upon the house of Ahab, at the death of Jezebel. It marks the point in that overthrow where Jezebel has fallen and Jehu deals with her remains.

In the verse Jehu, having come in and eaten and drunk, gives command to attend to the cursed woman and bury her. The reason given for the burial is her royal birth, for she is a king's daughter.

Jehu's action against Jezebel and the house of Ahab was God's raising up of an instrument to remove wicked rulers and heathen worship. The purpose was that some in Israel might be led to turn from idolatry and seek God. In this intent the judgment itself was a merciful providence.
