Jezebel Dead at the City Gate With Dogsby KalebRosendahl

2 Kings 9:36

Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:

The declaration identifies what befell Jezebel as the fulfillment of the word of the Lord previously spoken through Elijah the Tishbite. That fulfillment took place at Jezreel in the death of Jezebel, when Jehu killed Jezebel and the house of Ahab as part of the judgment on the house of Ahab. That judgment was vengeance for the blood of the servants of the Lord that Jezebel had shed. By raising up Jehu to execute this judgment, God showed compassion for Israel in its moral weakness, removing the heathen influences that tempted the people.
