The verse sets forth God's judgment upon the wicked Jezebel. God raised up Jehu to carry out that judgment by putting Jezebel to death and destroying the house of Ahab. That destruction was a merciful effort to help a morally weak Israel. By removing the heathen temptation embodied in Jezebel and Ahab's house, God opened the way for some to turn from heathenism and seek Him.
