2 Kings 9:5

And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain.

Jehu was serving with the captains of the army at Ramoth-gilead, where he held position as commander among them. A messenger sent by Elisha arrived there with a private, special commission addressed to him as captain. When Jehu asked which of the assembled captains was meant, the messenger identified him as the one addressed.

That encounter began the divinely directed anointing of Jehu as king of Israel, the visit itself forming part of the prophet's mission to anoint him. That anointing commissioned him to bring judgment on the house of Ahab.
