2 Samuel 1:20
Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph. Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
David wished that the news of Israel's defeat not be told in Gath. He wished that it not be published abroad in the streets of Askelon. His plea sprang from the deaths of Saul and Jonathan, lest those tidings reach the Philistine cities and give Israel's enemies cause to rejoice and triumph over the fallen.
