2 Samuel 13:32
And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
Jonadab corrects the false report that all the king's sons have been slain, assuring David that Amnon only is dead. Absalom had determined on Amnon's death from the day Amnon forced his sister Tamar, making the killing a long-planned revenge for the violation.
The verse belongs to the account of disgrace, sorrow, and judgments that came upon David through his own family in the events involving Amnon, Tamar, and Absalom. Those family sorrows came as retribution for David's wicked conduct against Uriah. They show the fulfillment of Nathan's denunciation after his sin.
The miseries in David's family are also traced to his multiplying wives and to his having many wives. The verse shows that wrongdoing brings calamity and sorrow upon the wrongdoer in the very kind of evil he caused others, as what a man sows he reaps. David received back in kind through all the rest of his life, principally in his own family, proving it never pays to do wrong and sin pays in its own kind. The surrounding account teaches that transgression of God's law carries an inherent curse, even when judgment is not openly seen.
