2 Samuel 14:2
And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:
Joab sent to Tekoah and fetched a wise woman to approach David disguised as a mourner. He instructed her to put on mourning apparel, to refrain from anointing herself with oil, and to carry herself as one who had mourned for the dead a long time. In that guise she was to present herself as a widow whose sons had quarreled, so that one of them was left facing death for the strife.
This contrived appeal was Joab's intercession to reconcile Absalom with David and to secure Absalom's return. Although Joab succeeded in bringing Absalom back, Absalom betrayed the trust placed in him and afterward led a rebellion.
