2 Samuel 14:32

And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king’s face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.

The demand to see the king's face was made in the course of Absalom's reconciliation with David after his return from Geshur. That reconciliation was secured through Joab's intervention, exercised on Absalom's behalf on two separate occasions. The restoration to favor did not produce loyalty, for Absalom afterward betrayed the trust Joab had placed in him. He became the instigator of rebellion against his father, and that rebellion ended in his own death.
