2 Samuel 14:6

And thy handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and slew him.

The verse records the account given by the woman of Tekoa that she had two sons who quarreled together out in the field where no one was present to come between them, and in the fight one struck the other and killed him. She told this story as an appeal to David to intervene and protect her surviving son from the kinsmen who were demanding his life in vengeance for the death. This account belongs within Joab's plan to use the woman to move David toward bringing Absalom back into reconciliation with himself. That restored relationship came before Absalom's later rebellion against David, a rebellion that ended with Absalom's own death.
