2 Samuel 15:32

And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:

David was ascending to the top of the mount where worship was offered when Hushai the Archite came out to meet him as he fled from Jerusalem. Hushai came with his coat rent and earth upon his head, the outward signs of deep mourning and distress over the king's calamity. He was a faithful friend to David and a counselor of proven ability, whom David knew he could trust. David therefore did not take him onward in flight but sent him back into Jerusalem to attach himself to Absalom, that by his counter-counsel he might defeat and frustrate the counsel of Ahithophel.
