2 Samuel 15:8
For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the LORD shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD. Absalom told his father that during his exile in Geshur he had bound himself by a vow to serve the Lord if he were ever brought back to Jerusalem. He presented his requested journey to Hebron as nothing more than the faithful payment of that vow. His profession of religious devotion was a pretense that concealed treasonous intent. By it he sought to reassure David and to win the confidence of the people, that he might draw them after him in rebellion against the king whom God had chosen.
