2 Samuel 17:18
Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man’s house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down. The two young men bearing Hushai's warning to David were observed and their movements reported to Absalom, yet they departed swiftly and made their way to a man's house at Bahurim. There they evaded pursuit by taking refuge in that house. Though discovered, their dangerous errand did not fail, for David duly received the urgent warning to cross the Jordan that very night because Absalom was seeking his life.
Their escape proved that Hushai's counsel had accomplished its purpose, securing time for David to flee while holding Absalom back. That delay allowed David to get safely across the Jordan before the rash and impetuous Absalom could set out after him with his large but undisciplined army.
