2 Samuel 17:21

And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.

This moment belongs to the account in which Hushai's counsel gave David an opportunity to escape, and it marks that counsel achieving its purpose. The verse records an urgent message to David to arise and cross the Jordan at once because Ahithophel had counseled against him. That warning reached David through the priests' sons carrying Hushai's message, with Absalom seeking David's life standing behind the threat. When it came David and his company had stopped for a brief rest with Absalom's forces close behind, so the whole company including women and little children had to cross the deep, swift-flowing river in darkness.
