2 Samuel 17:22
Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan. Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.
The crossing took place at night after the first day of flight from Jerusalem during Absalom's rebellion, in immediate response to Hushai's warning. Hushai, not certain the fickle king would follow his counsel over Ahithophel's, sent word through the priests by their sons that David must not lodge that night in the plains of the wilderness but must speedily pass over lest the king and all the people with him be swallowed up and destroyed. The young messengers were suspected and pursued yet succeeded in their perilous mission, and David, though spent and exhausted with toil and grief, was roused and awakened with the message that he must flee at once that night because his son was seeking his life.
David arose with his whole company — warriors and statesmen, old men and youth, women and little children — and crossed the deep, swift-flowing Jordan in darkness. Hushai's counsel had succeeded in gaining time for escape, and David used that delay to get across through the night before Absalom set out in pursuit, though Absalom's forces were close behind. By morning light the crossing was complete, with not one person missing and all safely gone over.
