2 Samuel 17:28

Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse,

David fell back with his forces to Mahanaim, and the list of beds, basins, vessels, and foods records what was brought to sustain them there. Mahanaim had previously been the royal seat of Ishbosheth. It was a strongly fortified city surrounded by a mountainous district that made it favorable for retreat in case of war.

The country around Mahanaim was well supplied with provisions, and its people were friendly to David's cause. There many adherents joined him and strengthened his ranks. Wealthy tribesmen also brought abundant gifts of provision and other needed supplies of the kinds named in the verse.
